Autumn in the Limousin is simply stunning. With the oaks and chestnuts shimmering their reds and golds and the unforgettable sight and sound of huge flocks of cranes migrating overhead you’ll find plenty of inspiration from this beautiful part of France.

With traditional French style luxury accommodation, delicious cuisine, small group sizes and professional art tutors our art retreats help all levels of artists to develop and make progress whilst getting a taste of the tranquil Haute Vienne countryside.

From complete beginner to accomplished artist our ‘Leaves & Lakes’ art course is designed to enable you develop your own style and artistic talents through the inspiration of exploring the autumnal landscapes of real rural France. With the encouraging coaching of your art tutor Glyn you will develop your skills of effectively mixing and blending colours and developing a colour palette to reflect the time of year. Through observation of local lake scenery you will gain accomplishment in the use of perspective and contrast, effectively capturing the mood of the season and the interaction between water and light.

It’s harvest time and you’ll get to taste the summer’s sun with our seasonally inspired dishes. The creamy orange butternut squashes and deep red Coeur de boeuf tomatoes mirror the autumnal colours of your artist’s palette, complemented by the fresh taste of home picked herbs and regional French wines. And with delicious home made biscuits and desserts you’ll be suitably restored for your next day’s art adventures.

The days will be comprised of tutor led sessions, excursions to local focal points, opportunities to sketch and plan ‘en plein air’ (weather permitting) and time to further embed what has been learnt and develop your artwork at the studio. As a mixed media course you choose which medium you wish to use. We appreciate many people have their preferred artist materials and as such we advise you bring your own artist materials with you. For those just starting out or wishing to try a new medium we provide a watercolour or pastels starter pack and some replacement materials for acrylic painting.
